So. I have a ls 10.25 sterling with 3.55. Now I have to figure out what bearing is bad... I think I'm going to just bring it in to a shop and bite the bullet.
Really hard to tell wear on a ring gear with just a picture, but with that what looks to be rust along with at least some noticeable wear, I'd replace. Especially if I was diving in to repair a bearing.
edit: Did you find a bad bearing? I don't remember. If not if that ring gear is worn bad enough it will cause your noise.
Yeah they said they found worn bearing coatings and some places where the cups were worn. He said that the bearings were where most of the howling was probably coming from and any noise caused by the corrosion would have been on deceleration.
