Need new engine...Newer V10 Swap?

Hello All,

Looks like i need a rebuild on my 08 expi or an engine swap. Originally i was leaning to just swap with a remaned 5.4. However, i do not want the same cam phaser issues and wouldnt mind more HP (who wouldn't). I have seen some posts around the web about possibly the 5.0 going in the expedition but that looks to be a major cost endeavor. So, my next thought was the V10. It would appear that it is the same as the 5.4 with two more cylinders (obviously a little bigger). I have seen posts about the older model expedition doing this but does anyone have info on the newer say 09/10/11 v10 going into my 08 expedition? Just starting this endeavor and if its too much to monkey with i will just go with the 3v 5.4 remaned. Thanks in advance.

I've considered doing this before but I came the conclusion that it just wouldn't fit. Excursion V10 owners can be heard talking about how bad it is to change the rear plugs in an engine bay that was designed for that engine. Imagine having to change them in a bay that wasn't designed for that. It would be a cab off service.

So, I stuck with the 5.4 3v and it never made me regret that choice. If it's more power you want, the mod motors are great for making power. And most of them are very reliable too. You probably got a bad apple like I did. However, I only had to do parts on mine, the motor never needed replacing, just parts (including phasers).

If you don't want the phasers, there is options out there to disable the parts in them that fail, or you can look at building an older 2v or even 4v for your engine bay. Those can have problems of their own but it's typically never mechanical.

What the situation on your current engine and who told you you need a new one. I'm not saying it didn't happen but it's unlikely the actual mechanical parts in your engine have failed to a beyond savable point. If it's just phasers, and you are interested, you can rebuild your engine yourself for under $700 (my cost) vs. the $5000 (starting price) that I was facing when I was having to redo my 5.4 3v.

Sorry, I have bad ADHD.

For what you asked. V10 swapping is a huge task and probably more cost (certainly in the long run) than a 5.4. You'd have to get a trans also, radiator that could cool the truck, you'd have to rewire a lot of things and make the anti theft work right, etc, too much, I wouldn't do it.
