my 2003 f-250 4x4 6.0 engine service light stays on all the time (for about 2 weeks now) it has 33,323 miles on it. it is running fine-no problems yet. no codes are showing up on a diagnostic test any ideals what is going on? thanks
[I tried to clear it, no dice. I will try your suggestions and let you know. thanks . I unhooked the batteries before and turned the park lights on, maybe it was not enough.
One thing for certain, if it had a light, you have a code. There are generic codes, manufacturer specific codes and pending codes. There are also codes specific to different modules on the truck like transmission, antilock brakes, trailer brake controller, security module and body module. Many inexpensive code readers will not return anything but generic codes and some of 'em are iffy on those. The device you used was not capable of reading the code. Disconnecting the batteries and flipping on the lights should have cleared the pcm's memory. It is likely a hard fail that happens when you start the truck (or turn the key on), for example a truly failed glow plug will turn on the CEL, you can clear it, and as soon as you crank the truck it will be back like you never cleared it.
I suggest scanning for codes with a different (better) device.
I used the ford gauge scan tool II and by a ford dealer. I will try other options and tools. in regard to the message it has to be lowest miles for 6.0--I have had 3 heart attacks-blood clots lodged in my heart and in my right leg--DVT and PE--plus PTSD from NAM. these have happened over the years. I wish it on no one. that is part of the reason for low miles. thanks and God bless all.

Utmost respect for any Vet that served in any conflict. Yours and others sacrifice are one of the reasons we are able to post on forums like this, regardless of ones views. PTSD is a real S of a B, having been in EMS for 18+ years, have seen things I would wish on nobody.
Now, as far as your unhooking the batteries, one thing to keep in mind is it might make your truck shift funky for a few weeks since you don't drive it much.
The torqueshift has to relearn things, so don't get too worried if it shifts diff from what you are used to, it will relearn itself. There is a relearn process you can do if you want to but it's kind of a PITA, it just speeds it up a little bit.
I think the same is true for the VGT on the turbo, needs to relearn.....someone correct me if I am wrong.
