I Was driving from AZ to El Paso TX. Cruise control set and cruising along and the cruise control kicked out in fifth gear. To close to El Paso not to finish the trip and too far away to turn around and go home. Grinding noise in first second third and fifth gear. Fourth gear is just fine. I pulled my tranny to change the clutch due to grinding noise coming from tranny area. Found that the shaft has lots of play and a grinding noise when spun by hand. The numbers on the tranny are E235144 XL34. I can not seem to find any info on this tranny for a suitable replacement. Would it be better to rebuild or get a new used or rebuilt one. I have 265000 mile on this baby and want to pass it down to my son.
