Has any one gone down in lift???

I have an '07 Crew with 6in of lift and 37's. It was lifted when I bought it almost two years ago and I have enjoyed it but now I want it to be lower...

I want to drop down to 4in of lift and run 35's (equivalent) rather than the 37's. I'm about to start towing more and want to save a bit of fuel as well as just have it lower.

Has anyone done this or seen it done? I wouldn't think there would be a ton involved but I know some things other than springs will need to be changed.

Anyone?

kind of hard to say without knowing how the lift setup works. you are most likely going to need shorter sway bar end links, the track bar will need to shorten up a bit and the drag pitman arm will need less of a drop as well

Its got all of the afore mentioned with 6" lift coils with dropped control arm brackets. I was thinking the Sway bar for sure would need to be shorter and less drop on the pitman... I had not thought of the sway bar links however.

I guess my biggest question mark is the control arm brackets, they are pretty beefy but with the stock control arms I do believe... I'm wondering if I can simply drill holes higher up on them and not replace them as they are welded on...

Was the drive shaft changed for the lift?

I would thing that a new lift (4") would come with all the parts needed and should just be a matter of removing the 6" stuff and replace with 4" stuff.

You should be able to run 35" tires with just a 2" leveling kit, but that's from a stock height. Going back to stock is probably off the table, finding all the parts would be a chore.

You should take a look at Craig's list, or post on it that you want to trade for a stock suspension. There's people that will trade you for a stock setup and maybe help switch. Then a leveling puck up front will get you up enough to fit the 35's. Just an option.

lots of guys looking for lifts would be more than happy to trade, you could even ask for $$ and the trade and probably get more than 1 call.

My aFe intake went that way, $150 plus your stock parts... sold in 15 minutes!

Great suggestions about swapping with someone looking to lift their truck. I'd also suggest hitting the salvage auctions to find a totalled out truck that still has the front suspension intact. Some of the worst wrecks can be had for a few hundred dollars. Both IAA and Copart allow non-broker buyers to purchase salvage title vehicles although IAA charges you $200 to bid. Copart is free. That's how I got the stock exhaust for a vehicle I was rebuilding. Then I sold the remaining carcass for what I paid for it to someone looking for other random parts. = free exhaust!!

Hey guys sorry for not replying, have just been weighing options... It seems that it will or would be much more work than I originally thought, might just be better to sell and start over. Hard to do though since mine only has 70K on it and everything out there is over 100K and they want more for them than they'll give me for mine ...

Seems weird though that you can stick 35's under a leveled one (of course I did exactly that on my 7.3) and need 6 inch lift for the 37's... There is no way these tires clear anything with a 4 inch lift, my front rubs a tiny bit as it is.

None-the-less I'm not sure which way to go... One thing that was mentioned was the drive shafts and I'm sure these were replaced because same year stock ones do Not look as long... Yep I bet the swap thing would work pretty easy but as much work as lifting one is un-lifting one could be more tricky ...

Thank you all for the suggestions and reply's, can always count on FTE...

Post an add on Craigslist, you might find someone with a smaller lift wanting to go bigger. Park them next to each other and start swapping parts.

Oh, it you wanted to go new, I'm sure you'd just need the kit. A 4" and 6" lift doesn't require different drive lines or anything.

You should also post an ad on the FTE classified section.

Mine had a 6" lift w/37's and was dropped back to stock just before I bought it. It wasn' t too involved just remove the lift parts and put stock parts back on. In my case the PO had all the stock part, well most of them. There's the springs and the drop bracket at the rear of the radius arm, these are the big items. Then there's the little stuff like brake line and shocks. I don' t think the drive shafts were replaced, or the trac bar. There is a trac bar bracket that needs removed I think.

Was the alignment adjusted after the lift was put on? The toe can be easily adjusted but the caster and camer are a bit more involved, and don't expect a shop to adjust it unless absolutely necessary.

That is exactly right... The radius arm drop brackets are welded on... I does however look like I could go up 2-2.5 In and re-drill and simply cut the bottom off. I think that would be easier than cutting the off completely, which could go into the frame and I do Not want that at all.

And really a 3in lift would be ideal but I have not found 3in lift coils...

I did just find this however... 3 inch leveling lift front. Which would of course be used with stock springs... I'm not a fan of them but it gets very little off road...

Thought I would update this... I'm going to go with the 2.5" Skyjacker Softride Coil Springs up front and then 4" blocks in the rear. And then 305/70R18 tires with my current new wheels. Just have to sell my tires only that way. I'll have to change the pitman arm and prolly the track bar bracket. As for the control arm drops, I'm just going to re-drill the holes higher and cut them off. It should still look pretty darn nice.
