Have a 2011 F150 with the 5.0. 91K miles. On startup-cold or warm-there is a ticking/tapping noise coming from the engine for about 3-5 seconds then it goes away. Happens on every single start. Sound like it's coming from driver side on top of engine, but hard to pin point. Any ideas?

I'd guess lifter tick while it builds oil pressure.

 

Has it always done this?
I would ditto thzpcs comment except when it is already warmed up. On older engines noisy valve train (lifter) noise was common until sufficient oil pressure was reached on the upper parts of the engine. I don't know about todays engines.
