V10 manual 5spd is very whimpy - suggestions

So, I have 1999 with 6.8L: V10 and it has a different 5spd than the PSD has.
Does anyone have any suggestions? This one has 240,000 miles on it. Shift forks are touchy and my clutch needs to be replaced soon.

Is it worth sticking money into this one or just get a rebuilt one? or a PSD trans? I don't know what will bolt up. But I know this, while researching my 6BT possible project, I learned they were diff transmissions. When doing a 6BT swap, I can buy an adaptor plate for the PSD 5spd but NOT for the V10 5spd.

I am new to this trans b/c all my other SD were PSD.

Shift forks may be touchy because you need a new clutch, is it grinding between gears?

I have the same setup in my 99, I have a slight chirp when shifting to 3rd , if I don't shift like it is a truck, rather trying to shift it like my Mustangs.

It is a truck transmission, and for what ever reason, people try to speed shift them, and that does seem to have an impact.

Personally, I would replace the clutch and all components with motorcraft parts, and have the transmission checked and repaired of needed.

While the price of the Ford parts my be more , they fit and work every time, especially the master cylinder / slave cylinder that comes pre bled.

I don't get the port of your thread? You state it's v10 with whimpy trans but it has over 200k and all it needs is a new clutch, so where does whimpy come from?

I have no idea where he found it, but my friend had a 1999 f250 7.3 5spd. He put a 5/10 split rear end in it to make it a ten speed. 1st was a granny. 2-8 were your driving gears and 9-10 were your overdrive. It had a high/low toggle on the shifter, just like big trucks. No changes to the tranny.

That S.O.B. would pull like my Peterbilt longnose. I have never to this day driven anything that was like that. And maybe since I drive a 18spd I did not mind changing the gears. Once you got going, you did not need the clutch.

That was a sweet ride.

My buddy did that on a dodge. I will have to ask. I've never considered. But that doesn't fix the whimpy trans problem.

When using a mobile device and you scroll to far and not paying attention the screen will enter another thread and respond to the wrong thread.

LoL. Got it. I was confused because I thought you meant I posted in the wrong thread. Thanks for clearing it up. Yeah I use full site mode when on my phone. I think the mobile site sucks.
