strong diesel/exhaust smell

Not at the exhaust, but from the engine compartment. Have to open the windows at a stoplight. Can also smell it when I walk past the parked truck. What's up?

Very vague question. Not to many people here can help you without information like, year, model, engine, modded, stock, etc, etc...

Check in your engine compartment for signs of an exhaust leak, especially around the turbo and down pipe.

Agreed. Look for black soot at every connection in the exhaust system from the manifolds to the downpipe.
