Has anyone put a stock 55 steering wheel on an Ididit column>

I have been lurking out here for a couple of years since I got my 55 and really enjoy learning and reading the posts. Thanks for the free education!!!!

I have searched and searched and can't seem to get it right to find out if there is an easy way to attach my stock steering wheel to my brand new sparkly Ididit steering column. And if I can get it on there, can I use the horn??? The column has the GM style attachment.

You would need an adapter and don't believe one has ever been made.

Welcome papacrunch. That's an ominous user name. Most of us have fabricated a thing or 2 for our trucks but some here might be shy about a DIY adapter for this purpose. Besides constantly looking at the fitment and appearance of the thing there's just something a little unsettling about driving down the road and wondering if your engineering and machining skills were adequate or if the steering wheel is going to suddenly pop off.

Certainly let us know what you find out and now that you've cracked the ice we hope you join in more.

I'm gonna bore my 56 wheels center out, and machine a junkyard chevy wheels center down to fit and then weld it in.

To answer your question... an adapter has not been made as of today and the way the wheel is made it can't be used to make the horn work with the Ididit column... kind of sound like clintonvillian has a plan to make it work and probable make the horn button as a horn button...

Thanks everyone for the information. Looks like one of the 1940 Ford knock off steering wheel with the bolt pattern is the path for me. Not a big fan of putting myself or other people at risk. I've already done enough of that in my life. :-)

Dan, I see that you are from Newberg. What a great little town. That is where the nickname came from. My oldest went to George Fox and played baseball there. A couple of kids on the team gave me that nickname and it stuck.

I just came about this thread. I have a stock looking wheel on my ididit column. I can take the center out and take some pics later if you have not done anything yet. I am not going to keep the big wheel. And to second the the no on the horn.

The wheel itself does have a wire going to it for a horn. I don't know where the wheel was bought or what brand it is but am sure that a horn can be hooked up to even with after market column . Like is said before I hope this can help you.

You should either be able to slide that cup in the slot and off, or push the triangle clips in and it release. That is really interesting, it looks like it has an adapted. Lije to see it with the horn contact plate off..

Thanks artscott61. I am going to have to take a closer look and see what I can do. I like your gauges. I am staying stock on those but yours are really nice looking.

Hey Pappacrunch,
We used a "replica" 40's Ford steering for our Ididit column.
They can be found on Ebay - still pricey - but nice.

You seem to have some sort of alien in the bed of your truck there.

Thanks Ben. My wife and daughter think that the truck is a prop for their photos with the dog in different costumes. He is a christmas elf in this one. :-)

clintonvillian after looking at it and being fooled a couple times I figured it out. The top is just a cap and snaps off. Hope the pictures help. I do need to pull the wheel for pappacrunch to see if it has an adapter maybe trade wheels

I feel like a fool not seeing that right away. OH Well!!
