DD 4.9L issue question?

DD 4.9L issue question?
I have a new to me 92' F150, 4.9L that has a couple of issues, could use some assistance with.
I haven't to do a tune up on it yet but in next couple weeks will be putting in new plugs, wires etc, change oil & filter.
The first one I don't think is a serious problem, but when starting it doesn't fire, but if I stop and then try again it fires, but stumbles a bit and if give it little throttle smooths right out. If I keep cranking it and pump throttle (like a carb engine) it will finally start and stumble then smooth out.
The best way seems to turn it over a few times, stop and then start it, give it touch of throttle and she idles fine from then on.
The other issue that has just started to occur has me more concerned.
When engine starts it runs for few seconds then has a rattle or knock kinds like a diesel. It only lasts a couple moments and quits.
By the time I heard it and was going to shut it off if quite and ran fine. Yes did check the oil level. :-)

since the truck is new to you, the first thing you should do is change the oil and filter ... who knows what is in that crankcase right now.
while you are waiting to replace the tune-up parts you could pull the codes and check fuel pressure. if i had more computer savvy i would post a link on how to pull codes ... try a search and you should find it easily.
p.s. ... you might have gotten a quicker reply in the 1987-1996 f-150 and larger forum.

I'll get the oil & filter changed this weekend and look up how to pull codes too.
