I am having some overheating issues with the trans and engine coolant....I am assuming that a bad or somewhat clogged radiator would make your trans over heat. right?..because the trans fluid goes through the radiator for cooling before going to the trans oil cooler on my truck....so if the engine coolant is too hot...then the trans would be too hot..am I right about that??...ok...now the reverse question. if your trans is overheating would it cause your engine coolant to overheat?....I am thinking no on this question...right?...I mean I am assuming the radiator would still cool the engine coolant....even if the trans fluid was too hot.

 

Correct I believe. The standard transmission cooler is in the bottom tank of the radiator which is the coolest point in the system. If the radiator is not getting the heat out of the coolant it won't cool the trans fluid very well.

Compared to the engine, the transmission does not make much heat... unlikely that the transmission is causing excess engine temps.

Besides taking care of the engine cooling issue, it may be a good time to add an auxiliary (air to oil) transmission cooler. It goes in line with the cooler in the radiator. It will help the transmission live especially if you are running heavy or towing Its a good idea even with a stout radiator. Lots of choices... I went with the biggest of 3 NAPA sells for Dents. .
