1986 Ford F-150 won't start!!

Truck details?
What year is your truck?
If you have a carburetor, you can have someone that knows what they're doing spray starting fluid into the carb while you try and start it.

First, welcome to FTE!
Second, I think this is a coincidence as I can't think of any reason running out of gas would cause this problem. But, when you try to start it do the lights and electronics stay on, or do they die or significantly dim? If the latter, you have a dead battery or bad connection on the battery cables.

I agree that the battery connections should be cleaned. But, if it doesn't crank then:
- There's no voltage coming from the ignition switch to the little terminal on the solenoid. You can test that with a voltmeter there, or pull the slip-on connection off and jumper from the hot side of the solenoid to that terminal and the engine should crank - but make sure the truck is in Park!
- If it still doesn't crank, and assuming you've cleaned the battery connections, then I would suspect a bad connection on the cable at the starter.
- Or, a bad solenoid. The solenoid should click when the key is turned to Start.
