clutch replacement advice?

clutch replacement advice - also posted in 67-72 Truck

Some help please,
I must replace the clutch in 69 F100 - 360 - 3 spd (used to be on column).

I found a thread from 6-2002 that suggested Centerforce clutch and double friction pressure plate and throwout bearing---

I have never done this - Is there a complete set of INSTRUCTIONS available somewhere?

How many hours/days should I expect?
Difficulty level for a mechanically inclined engineer?

Two things I have heard repeatedly are resurface flywheel and buy alignment tool. Any other MUST Do's for a happy ending.

Are there wear points or broken things that an experienced mechanic would look fo while it is apart?

Thanks in advance,
Richard and son

you might be refering to the dual friction. it provides more holding power over stock, I think 90% but the way it is set up, it will keep close to stock feel on the pressure plate engagement. as for the resurfacing, it is a must for optimum performance. for the alignment tool, if you have a friend that has one, perfect, if not a local parts store should sell a universal set for around $25. or rent (no place here ) it is just used to align pressure plate/disc to pilot bearing while mounting to flywheel. along with the clutch kit, should be instructions. while apart, spend the $10 or what ever, replace the throwout bearing. The kit should have a pilot bearing included, if not change for that you will need a puller. I think that's the basics. ooh maybe rear main seal if it's leaking.... good luck

thanks,
The sachs kit came with clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and pilot bushing as well as alignment tool

I will pass on the rear seal unless it is leaking. because of oil pan, pump, jacking up engine etc.

Best alignment tool is the discarded input shaft of a scrap transmission.

thanks to all,

I think the tool in the kit is good.
I will try it this weekend but not attempt the rear seal unless absolutely necessary.
