The biggest issue comes if/when you sell it. Sure, you know what it's capable of and the limitations of the faux DRW, but should it leave your hands the next driver will more than likely not understand the difference.
To be honest, if I do this I won't be selling the truck unless it's dead and goes to a scrap yard.
But, as far as being "faux" DRW, I don't see how a truck running all of the parts that a factory DRW truck has is "faux".
The "limitations" will be not to run over the factory GCWR and GVWR on the truck label. If someone does that, it's on them and they were wrong to begin with.
This is becoming very annoying, I can't seem to find the part numbers for the steering knuckle / front wheel spindle on for the 2wd trucks.
I just need to find out if the SRW 250 2wd and DRW 350 2wd trucks use the same front knuckle. I can find the knuckle for the 4wd trucks on every site, but apparently no one ever needed to replace the knuckle on a 2wd?
Maybe I did find it... part number from that link appears to be 3105 for the RH? IDK, there's no image with it...
So, YES, the knuckle and spindle are the same from F250 to F350 SRW to F350 DRW.

KNUCKLE F350; Right 2WD At least one would assume so, the rotors specify DRW or SRW, but the knuckles and spindles only specify 2wd or 4wd. And the calipers are all the same as well as pads. PHEW!!!

You're still limited to the door sticker no matter what modification is done. Anyone buying a truck for towing will know that. And you simply inform the buyer and install the info sticker stating this conversion does not increase the cargo or towing capacity of the vehicle. If it leaves my hands I'm not responsible for the guy overloading the vehicle past its factory ratings.
I had a 99 250 single wheel and a 01 350 dual wheel.
The front axles were D50 on the 250 and D60 on the 350. The brake rotors and hubs were not the same. The 250 had a 12/99 build date but late model springs and cruise and turbo. Once I changed the hubs and brake rotors to new style it was identical. The 350 has a set of frnt wheel adapters that bolt in to push out the hub wheel studs to accept a dually wheel. You will need to pull the studs and put the dually bolts on the front hub to bolt the spacers on. I could bolt these on to my 250. The front springs were the same in both trucks V codes.
250 was a lariat leather power seats
350 was a XLT cloth no power seats
99 has a (still miss it) fold down rear seat
01 had flip up rear seats
The rear axle springs looked similar both had overload spring pack. Don't remember the 250 rear spring codes.
The dually has a wider rear axle to accept dually wheels. Not sure if the axle was physically different other than wider.
The 250 had 3:55 auto trans
The 350 had 4:10 standard shift trans
Both 4x4
250 had dash switch vacuum auto hubs
350 has floor lever manual hubs only
Both had 7.3 diesels extended cab long bed (valve cover sticker)
250 had a 250 hp rating
350 had a 275 hp rating
If I remember right the 250 had a 10k rating the 350 has 11.5 rating. But I'm not 100% sure on the 250 cause my uncle has it now
To each his own. But I drive a F350 crewcab dually as my daily driver and have no problems with it, some drivethroughs are a little tight and of course the quickie car washes don't work, but you do learn to deal with those issues. I have about a 100K on this truck, my last one had over 500K and I would never go back to a SRW, I haul heavy and tow heavy a lot, it also doesn't hurt that I drive a twin screw Kenworth around town with a 53ft trailer doing city delivery doing 1 to 200 miles a day, so my dually is my "little" truck.
I had a 78 crew cab and the guy i got it from put a narrow dana 70 under the back and the dually tires only stuck out about a1 1/2 inches. He trimmed the inner wheel well and it looked AWESOME. I just wish i took pics of it. it was a parts truck. He put the adapters on the front for the dually wheels.
I have to agree, while my F250 was getting the transmission rebuilt i borrowed my friends f350 dually. I hated driving it, HATED it, and before that i had always wanted a dually. Never ever ever will i own a dually. Pita to park, pita to back out after parking, pita in a drive thru either fast food or bank. Pita in narrow construction zone, pita at crowded gas pumps, pita in rain.....i could keep going lol. I get that there is a functional purpose of the dually, but if you want it just for the looks, you should probably drive one for a week or two first. It was the most unpleassnt vehicle ive ever driven.i was so glad to get my F250 back.
Very few of us enjoy the Dually, yes your right you need a purpose and not just for the looks! I for one love driving it and it is a challenge to park but then again I always look for the area in parking lots empty in hopes that no shopping cart or car door gets slammed into my truck. Never works in my favor because people spot out that lonely truck off in the distance and decide I'm going to park there too just to **** me off!
In addition you have to be a special to drive a dually and I love mine, sure the ride can be stiffer but I would rather go big or go home. In my honest opinion I have put my truck in many places a Dually should probably not fit but you have to know how to drive one and get used to it.
For the original OP, I thought about getting rid of my Dually option to downgrade to SRW only for the simple fact of expense on tires but if I were you, stick with what you have your truck looks great just don't dig the white color!
