56 F-100 rear springs removal

On my 56 I would like to re-mount the rear axle under my rear springs. The PO tried to lower the truck and installed the axle above the springs. Due to clearance issues I want to change it back.
Looking at the front spring pins it looks like there is very little clearance between the front spring hanger and the inside wall of the truck's box. So it's looking to me like if I pound the front pins out, then they may not be enough room to allow them to slide out all the way. My question is then does the box have to come off to get the pins out?

I thought there were holes in the frame to remove the spring pins.

Access to the backside of the pins is made by drilling a hole through the bracing for the bed support in line with the pin hole, which should be visible behind the bracket. Your truck bracket may already be drilled; mine wasn't, but it was no big deal. You place a large drift through this access hole and through the hole in the frame, against the pin, and pound the hell out of it. The pins will eventually come out. Make SURE that you remove the cross locking pin before attempting to drive out the spring pin!! The spring pin is grooved and the locking pin wedges into this groove to lock the spring pin in place.

Thanks guys! I appreciate your suggestions on how to get rear access to the pins. What I am worried about is the other side of the pins, where they are sliding out. Is there enough room for them to slide completely out before they hit the sheet metal of the box? On mine it looks like there is a little under 2 " for the pin to slide out. The springs are around 2 1/4" wide so the pins have to be longer than that. I am thinking that answer is the bed has to come off. Am I right about that?
