1991 F350 Diesel won't turn over

Let me start off by saying that I am very new to the diesel truck world. I have owned toyota cars my whole life and now I have ventured into the truck world. I recently bought a 1991 Ford F350 Super cab diesel truck. I have gone through every fluid system, bought 2 new batteries, and new windshield, and 4 new tires for this truck. I was all set to go out for a spin tonight and when I went to start the truck it wouldn't turn over. I noticed that the "wait to start the engine" light only stayed on for about three seconds before going off. Before having this problem, the light would stay on for about 10 seconds before I would start the truck. The engine cranks great, but it won't turn over. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have new fuel in the tank and recently added a fuel additive to keep the fuel from gelling. I live in Tacoma, Wa so our temperatures right now are around 45 degrees.

First, Welcome to FTE and the IDI world, you're in good company.

Second, Brad is constantly chiming in that there's no such thing as a super cab F350, I beat him to it, lol.

Third, you say that it "cranks great, but it won't turn over" typically when we use the term "turn over" we mean cranking. You're saying it won't start.

Last, you clearly have a glow plug issue as indicated by the short wait to start light. Common problem, head here to the IDI section, you'll find a sticky with everything you need to know about the glow plug system. Pre-Power Stroke Diesel (7.3L IDI & 6.9L) - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums If that doesn't do it for you post a thread there where there's A LOT of very knowledgeable IDI owners.

welcome to FTE.
try plugging the truck in for 2-3 hours before trying to start it. this will tell you if it is a glow plug problem or a fuel problem.

now. when you are cranking it, do you see any white smoke out of the exhaust?
this wil ltell you you are getting fuel but the glow plugs are not working .no smoke would be no fuel.
lastly, do not run the starter for more than 30 seconds, then let it sit for at least two minutes to let the starter cool off, otherwise you will overheat and cook the starter.

and as said above, post up down in the IDI section. there are a lot of real smart folks down there that will help you get the old girl in tip top running condition.
