Ford navigation radio

http://m.ebay.com/itm/2007-07-Ford-Freestyle-CD-DVD-Navigation-Radio-Receiver-OEM-LKQ-/361424978450?nav=SEARCH
Anyone put something like this in their truck? Does it need to be programmed by the dealer? Should be plug and play. I'd like to maintain the oem look in my truck. I also like not having to spend over $600-800 for an aftermarket unit. Advice?

Look at that last photo from the end in the images. It has a raised part for
the numbers and that may make it taller than the double din slot. You would have
to do some trimming. Also you will need the map CD that goes in that 2nd slot.

But I don't think you have to have it programmed. BUT that said that CD can be
hard to find and cost more than you want to spend on it. You need to ask if it come with it.

Seems to me I researched putting one in my 05 when I had it and it would not work in our trucks. The one I was looking at was out of an 08 super duty though. I'll see if I can Remmeber where I read that at and post a link

I think the newer head units want to be able to talk on the buss
to the Cluster and maybe the PCM. The GPS ones do need a VSS
signal for speed calculations. But with the older trucks the VSS was
part of the harness plug for the head unit (radio).

So basically it will work as long as the radio is an 07 or older? Sounds like I'm going to end up with a kenwood after market unit

I am not 100% sure but any thing older should be fine. It's
when you get up into the units that need the buss to get info
that your going to have problems with.

I just found a reasonably priced doubledin that looked similar to the factory unit. I hate the sync in my wifes 2010 expy. I really dislike the navigation as well. Id rather use my tom tom, the garmin or as i normally do my phone. They are more accurate. More user friendly amd cheaper to keep updated

What did you swap yours out with? I'm finding that the only ones that look close to factory are some unknown Chinese brand. None of the name brands units look stick to me
