Ha! Convince her that you are right? I say again: Ha! Clearly not a veteran move. The only correct response is: You're right. What was I thinking?

Sounds like a perfect reason to bag the rear. You both win.

Yes and no. Convincing a woman to like something she doesn't like? Thats usually just a Lotto shot. But I still see much promise in his thinking. I believe the ability to compromise from time to time has kept me married to the same one for 29 years. I got lots of cool stuff. Most of my buds are on Wifey V2.0 or V3.0 Most of them have far less cool stuff. I think there may be a correlation. And now you know why my truck is not yellow. I like yellow hotrods

Between raked and dropped, I'll take raked. Not a fan of trucks in the grass. But, back to your wife. Assuming she is like my wife and most women, just see if you can get her to admit that it is not such a big deal that it will keep her out of it. If you can get that, it's about as close to a compromise as you are going to see.

Schuyles,

It's because that is how they are SUPPOSED to sit. My '54 has rake, although it still needs a dropped axle and to have my reversed eye main leaves installed, but my '40 coupe and '40 stake truck all have rake. Heck, blame me for corrupting your thinking, if you would like.

I mentioned it in your build thread, but you NAILED the stance, and I am digging the Rocket wheels.

You nailed it! "Back in the day" you had a Low Rider AKA Leadsled , a Gasser or Raked look. A Funny Car look was what many Rakers tried to emulate. If you didn't jack the rear end up your car would squat and ruin your new pair of wide Meats (Tires).
Probably no help

Thank you everyone for the insight, education, and support! She got a kick out of the replies and I think she's one step closer to being in the hot rod camp!

As already stated the rake was to get bigger tires on the back for traction, and to copy the race cars. Problem is raising the back just takes weight off the back and actually makes traction worse. Went through it in the 80s, lost traction, tossed the air shocks and just put the biggest tire I could get on my car with it level. Hooked much better. Now I think a heavy rake is funny looking. IMO trucks need a slight rake so they are level when they are hauling something but only a few inches max. I would much rather be lowered and level then having the back stick way up.

Just lower the rear and make it level, then she'll complain that it looks like a lowrider and ask you to put it back. L8R ZFLASH

Hey Schuyler,
What you need is a little misdirection - get her to take her focus off
of the obvious rake of the truck. I would change the muffler to get the loudest
one you can find - cherry bombs, exhaust cutouts, the works.
If it makes a huge racket she'll focus on that - Fix it - and she leaves you alone on the rake...

Good luck over there.

Hey Schuyler,
Other misdirection possibilities:
o Loud Backfiring out the exhaust...
o Billowing black smoke out of the engine...
o Huge oil leak in her favorite parking spot..
o Squealing Belt....
o Broken Heater if she rides in it & freezes she'll stop worrying about the rake.
o Paint a naked Memphis Belle type gal on doors...

Lot's of opportunities.... Just trying to help..

Exactly! kinda raises the rear end! I like the raked look goes back to my teenage years in the 70's when muscle cars all had that look with the wide rear tires.

Its not for everyone though.
