Exclamation how to ID whether motor original?

How can I check to see if a motor in a '93 F350 is the original to the truck or a replacement? Matching casting numbers? If so, where do I find the number for the truck? (I know where to look for the number on the 460.)

Thanks.

Try the tag/sticker on the valve cover, if it's in readable shape, and call Ford with the numbers.

Some times when motors are replaced, the cleanliness or grime, or lack thereof, engine-to-engine bay, look inconsistent.

That's tough.
I've replaced my engine, but longblocks don't come with 'tin' so valve covers and oil pan need to be swapped over.

Does it matter?
If you are just trying to figure out if the engine is worn a leakdown test will tell you more than mileage.

One thought is that many rebuilders attach medallions to the head or block to indicate if the engine has been overheated (for warranty purposes).
If you find one (or more) of these you can be sure it is remanufactured, but their absence doesn't mean it's not.

Well, if the block casting number is FT3E or younger, its possible its original. Whereas FT4, 5, etc, is a definite giveaway its not. Just reducing the odds, not a sure thing.

I was quite sure my 5.8 was virginal & unmolested... till helpful chapter member pointed out it didn't come with numbered rods. Thanks Thomas.

That's the casting number for ALL external balanced 460 blocks.
Any 7.5l built after the running change for the 1979 model year will look like that.

Oh I feel sure its the original engine, just the total lack of "handling" evidence ( the flats of nuts & bolts pristine, no rounding, wires, hoses, clamps just right & correctly located, no paint damaged or scratches) floored me when I opened up the pan on the engine stand & that was pointed out.

All 460 block casting #s haven't changed since 79 & carry the D9TE prefix by the pan rail?
