It's not a live forum for the Ford engineers so we will have to wait for an answer.

IMO They will say use whatever the manual recommends either 5w20 or 5w30 for newer trucks with the exact same motor. They had to have changed to 5w30 for some reason??

if they keep it that simple I will not be happy with that answer

What about fleet owners, are they going to stock different oils?

Thanks for the good question about the oil, we're going to get an answer from the SuperDuty engineers but it's going to take a little more time.

My 1990 I-6 300 also reduced the oil weight. On start up it would clatter for about a second. I went to 10w40 and almost no clatter. Then I went to Royal Purple 10 w 40 and zero clatter. On my 2000 V10 after break in I went to 10 w 30 or w40 royal purple with 10000 mile changes, but I would change the oil filter every 5000. Just sold that truck with 133,700 miles and it ran as good as day one, with about 1/2 qt oil use every 5000 mile. Do not know what mt strategy will be on my 2016 F350.
