Oil Type and FILTER!

Hey guys!
So i guess the guy that had this truck before me claimed he was using amsoil and just got it done. that was in may. I've prob put 5000 miles on it tops and the oil is disgusting. Guessing i should of did the change then because pressure seems to be low. I added a quart of 10w-30 synthetic just til I can get to the store. What oil and oil filter is everyone using? Specifically oil filter because i don't know the fit! thanks guys!

I run 15W40 diesel Cenex oil. I like certain properties this oil has for my old 1968 engine. Ultimately only you can decide what to run in your engine. As for the filter, it depends what engine you have. I have a 429 swapped into my truck, so it may be different than what you have. If you would like to give me a little more information, I would be happy to share any information I can with you.

Edit:
Here are a list of oil filters for FE's that *should* work if you have an FE engine (I don't personally own an FE, but this is what my google-fu has taught me)
Puolator L-2081
AC PF20
Wix 51068
NAPA 1068
Fram PH43
Chrysler 3549957
Hastings LF196

If you have a 300/302/351 I know that a Wix 51515 will work. Personally I only use Wix filters, so I can't really comment on anything else here.

Shell Rotella T 15w-40 and a Motorcraft FL-1A filters on my 65, 68, 70, 71. The '73 gets a Motorcraft FL-300 filter because of a 79 Bronco PS swap.

Napa Premium Gold Filter and cheapy synthetic diesel engine oil, 5w40. And Zinc replacement gunk just in case. I live in mostly winter climates so a light synthetic oil is important to me.

If you've run dino (conventional) oil you might have problems switching to synthetic. When I switch an engine to synthetic, I'll do half and half one change and full synthetic the next. And then swap and change all the leaking gaskets and seals :P

'77/'79/'79 F250's 2 have 400 & 1 has 460 Motocraft or Wix filters usually. I've got Rotella 15w40 t1 in everything but the gf GMC terrain so far and it'll probably have it soon too

If its a older flat tappet 302 it will like extra zinc (aka ZDDP). I run Rotella T 15W40 diesel oil in my '78 400 for that reason. NAPA premium filters are good. Make year and model should do it if the engine is original (style).

Mobil synthetic blend 10W40 high mileage. I use a Motorcraft FL1A but Baldwin B2 and Napa/Wix 1515 work. I know that in a pinch or for low clearance areas there is a Mopar filter that will work but I can't remember the number. Let the hate begin for mentioning that blasphemy.

What oil? LOL!!!

Find a multi-grade that makes you happy with your pressure and go from there. I'd probably start with a 10W40 myself. The only time you should have any real concern about what brand you are using is if you want 10,000 mile plus drain intervals. Otherwise anything you would use should provide plenty of protection. Filters? Motorcraft FL-1A! But will use NAPA Gold (Wix) as well.

Yeah, Motorcraft FL-1 is pretty much the standard. At 5000 miles, the oil should be dirty. Opinions vary, but I don't like full synthetics in an older engine used to dino oil. A lot of times it makes them use oil more than normal.

Concur. Synthetics are acceptable for modern engines due to close tolerances and modern metallurgy. I run Mobil 1 in my 01 SuperCrew and PT Cruiser (DD).

Conventionals are appropriate for vintage vehicles and OK if their engines have been rebuilt in detail.
