help!! 1978 F-600 4x4

Hello, I am new to forum . Recently brought her home, first step is brake sys. overhaul. Rockwell axles & Warn lock-out hubs. I removed the eight allen head screws that retained the locking hub cover/ in-out ****, then the snap ring & washer, that allowed access to the snap ring that was on end of axle shaft, removed it. The assembly will now slide outward on the splines of the shaft to about 3/16" then stop. Could the shaft outboard of the snapring groove be mushroomed or the splines boogered up?? How rough with it can I get? I figure parts are hard to find? thanks in advance !

1st off it is a Rockwell axle not a common D44 or D60 that most us deal with. Have you asked this question here? Large Truck - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

Or ask this guy for sure, he has Rockwell's under his Ford truck. And I know Alan has been into it and over hauled them before, so for sure he will know.

On our little stuff you have to remove the wheel/tire, caliper, hub/rotor, caliper mount plate and spindle to get an axle to pull out.

Hmmm. I've actually not had my hubs apart yet. I need to, but haven't gotten that far. But in answer to your question, yeah the hubs get stuck. You can hit on them, but don't get too excited.

Maybe you can install a couple of the screws back in and set up a slide hammer to ****** it out. Or a puller.
