2015 explorer limited oil change intervals
Just got a 2015 ex limited. It appears the change oil life is set at 7500-10,000 miles I would like to change this to 4000 miles but don't find anything in the owners manual or at Ford or online. Hopefully someone here can help.
Thanks for any advice.

Change it every 5000 miles. Just reset the oil life monitor - regardless of what it says - when you change the oil. You can use the second trip odometer to keep track of the oil mileage. Change both the oil and filter each time. Oil and filters are cheap and they are one of the best ways to have an engine that makes it to 200,000+ miles.
I have a '14 Sport and change the oil and filter every 5K. I would also recommend using the Ford oil filters. I started off using a major brand but noticed that they were significantly lighter in weight than the Ford filter. I sacrificed 2 filters to the band saw to find out why. The Ford filter has an anti-drain back valve with a silicone valve disk. The other filter does not. Given the vertical position of the filter on the engine it's probably not much of a big deal but they cost almost the same so why not. I DON'T spring for the overpriced Ford synthetic oil; Mobil 1 works just fine.

The 2000 F250 V10 I bought new I went 10,000 on the full synthetic oil and changed the filter (Purolator Pure 1) every 5. During break in I changed regular oil at 1000 and 5000 before the synthetic at 10000 miles. Just sold it with 133,000 and it used no oil between changes and the engine ran like new. I would also rotate tires every 10000 mile and got good life from them. Although I keep a maintenance log on everything I did on the truck, with the 10000 or 5000 interval you really don't need one. On my wife's 2013 explorer (bought new) I did the same until I started using regular oil at about 35000 miles and have gone to a 5000 mile interval. It has 53000 miles and no issues. I also put in magnetic drain plugs and a magnet on the oil filter.

A lot has to do with where you live and how you drive. That's what the oil life monitor attempts to take into account. There's a big difference between a vehicle in Arizona that gets driven no less than 20 miles each time its used and spends most of its life north of 50 mph as compared to a vehicle used in a Chicago winter with plenty of idling and low speed city driving. The oil life monitor keeps track of speeds, engine temperatures, outside air temps and a bunch of other items.
5000 miles seems to be a safe, conservative number if you don't want to go with the oil life monitor (and I don't).
In the case of my Explorer Sport, I feel that oil is cheap - turbo bushings are not.
