more on the window seal repair
Tried the Versimold rubber last night last night. Once cured it feels a bit like the replacement seals from Mac's a bit softer than the rubber originally used. If you have looked it can be seen that the original pop out window seals on the body were made from 8 bits vulcanized into one piece. I'm working on a separated corner. The outer parts have crumbled away( what I'm going to call the outer wall and umbrella of the seal, the later being the edge that the glass frame seals against when closed). The folks at versi. indicate parts can be built up, mended or reproduced. I made a flat ribbon of the stuff and pressed/molded onto the existing corner to replace the outer wall. I laid a slip of plastic about .035" thick to hold the required gap between the inner and outer wall. The new rubber has a bit of a sticky feel after curing. I'm told this will pass after a few days. The union of the old seal to the new rubber was gummy feeling and weak. Seems to be a reaction going on between the old and new rubbers it remained a bit gooey. the product sticks well to it's self. I sanded the old surface cleaner and will make a foundation of the new material and see if trapped solvents/ether's from the reaction can be evaporated out and then attach a new outer wall to the foundation. I still think this stuff has merit and I'll report back as I go ahead.
