GREAT NEWS on my 2004 5.4 ticking!!!!

Hey u all! I wanted to share some great news with you all.

Last weekend I had a local Ford guy who works on trucks out of his garage replace all 24 of my lifters. WELL, IT NO LONGER TICKS!!!! THE NEW LIFTERS COMPLETELY MADE IT SILENT! NO MORE TICKING TIME BOMB!!!!

YAY!!!!!!!!

He showed me what the bad lifter looked like and they were very loose. He said that most of my lifters were bad.

I'm so glad that I read the posts on here that suggested replacing the lifters because it worked for me!!!!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!

Good to hear it is resolved!!

Be sure to do frequent oil changes at 3k-5k mile intervals which will help to keep this problem from happening again. Cheers!

Great that you got the ticking issue resolved. I have to ask, was the truck always serviced per Ford? And with what type oil? Also, how had the truck been used, hard work, short trips?

@ Daddy-o :

There are several reasons with this engine that causes ticking. Some have exhaust leak, some have the cam phaser problem, VCT solenoid.

Find a Ford Master Mechanic or there's a guy on Youtube called Blood Sweat and Gears and he works on Fords.

Good luck!

Yes, it was always serviced by Ford dealer with motorcraft oil 5w20.

My truck was my ex husband's for the first 40k miles then I had to take it due to him taking my car for better gas mileage. He missed a lot of oil changes.....late on oil changes and did not do maintenance on it. He did not take good care of his truck. The only hauling we did with it was moving and selling firewood.

I just put Rancho leveling struts and shocks on it last weekend and I love it being leveled! looks tough!

Thanks, that explains a lot. I believe many of the 5.4 issues are the result of poor maint. Glad you got it fixed. Sometimes it is easy to blame the manufacturer but many times when the truth is known, it is not so much the manufacturer.

Thanks HG, my fuel injectors make a little noise but my lifters sound like a can of marbles. It's time, in fact, long overdue. I'm glad for the posts. I'll post my results. It'll be a week or two. I still need to find the right mechanic.
