My temp gauge is only working occasionally so I replace what I thought was the coolant temp sensor on my 1988 F350 with a 7.5L 460. It has a plastic connector coming off of it with a green and black wire. I'm reading in other forums that it should only be a single wire (red/white stripe). The sensor I replaced is to the right behind the distributor. The gauge is still not working. I was wondering if somehow I have replaced the wrong sensor. Also it shows my wiring from this sensor going back to the computer so what wire actually goes to the gauge? Any help is greatly appreciated!

 

Yeah it's a little single wire thing about the size of a nickle near the #5 injector on the V8 trucks and down on the side of the block for the I6.

 

Is this it? It does not have a single white wire.

You are confusing the SENSOR for the computer with the SENDER for the gauge.

 

Ok great! So where is the sender for the gauge? I've looked everywhere. Even my shop manual is showing this one as the one for the gauge so I'm lost.

The temp sender for the dash gauge is near the end of the injector manifold on the passenger side on the 460.
