It's been doing it for about a month but got worse since oil change. I'm driving it around, runs smooth except when high rpms. 2nd to 3rd doesn't shift smoothly. I sometimes have to release pedal and get 3rd gear. New transmission too. It smells like smog in here (I'm driving right now).
Power seems to have been regained it's up from 40 to 55mph. But still down from 70. Something tells me that hissing sound might be causing power loss. When it hisses, it smokes.

The rotation of the crank will sling oil into the cylinders, if the oil level is not high enough the oil will not be there to lubricate the cylinder wall and therefore cause failure of the rings or a piston to damage or seize in the bore. some of the 7.3 had oil cooling jets but I think they were only in 7.3PSD DI. someone correct me if im wrong.

I wouldnt be to worried. Local "qwik lubez" did the 92 while my dad still had it, it lost, for all intensive purposes, "all" the oil. Think we added 9 or 10 qts, cant remember, had 1/2 gallon left out of 12 if memory serves. Hit the off ramp and all of a sudden the lifters were clattering like they were going to climb through the block. Had to drive another 7 miles to "anything" happened to be a little store that sold us supertech 15-40 for $22 / gal. Oil pressure is still fine, no knocks or clatters. On top of that even, about 6 months after i got it, the seal on the IP died and put a bit over a gallon of diesel in the oil, i probably drove it that way (not after i noticed obviously) for 1000-1500 miles.
