95 E4OD trans in 93 460 4x4

My trans went out in my 93. I am in the middle doing a automatic to 5speed swap in a identical 95 that I have. So i took the 95 trans and put into the 93 now finding out that the solenoid connection is different. From what I have read I can just replace the solenoid packs from the 93 to the 95 trans, which they say should not be an issue. I was wondering if a have other options. Can I just swap the plug in the harness if I use the 95 computer? I also have a extra wire harness out of either a 95 or 96, can I swap harnesses? Any help would be appreciated. I would like to get some information so I know what my next move is. Thanks

Well turns out the extra wire harness I thought I had I do not. Your post said I could swap harnesses and computers. I still have the auto computer. Do you know if I would be able to swap the portion of the wire harness for the trans that plugs directly into the main harness from the 95 to the 93. This would give me the correct plugs and I would use the 95 computer.

You can swap the connector. I don't know if you can easily swap portions of the harness.

Mark....... do you know how I would go about seeing if it would be?

FORDF250HDXLT............My thought was that the newer style solenoid pack would be an upgrade. Also not needing to crack open the trans seemed like a plus. The trans was in my late fathers truck that was rebuilt with less than 5000 miles. It has been sitting for about two years but I thought it still should be good. Do you have experience with this situation or the wire harness question?

Well I decided that it would be best to swap solenoid packs and replace filter at the same time. Hopefully all will be good.

yeah, using the early pack has the diodes built in and the latter pack has none (they're in the pcm.) so you'll just end up with redundant diode protection by using an early pack in a late e4 is all.run 'er.good luck.

Well its been a while since I posted and want to bring the thread to an end. I swapped out the 95 solenoid pack with the 93, replaced the filter (made a clip to hold the filter in place to make sure it does not fall out because I have a deep transmission pan with cooling tubes). I also drained the converter and filled with fresh oil. Prior to starting I used a Transmission Line Cleaner & Flush to cleaned out the lines and cooler. I then took off the return line from the trans started the truck and made sure the fluid going thru the cooler was clean. So the truck runs and drive but is shifts weird. Sometimes is shifts smooth and sometimes you need to wear a kidney belt. It is not consistent either you never when or what gear change will be harsh when on or off of the throttle. I have not run codes yet but I do not have a engine light on. I am scouring the forums and internet for clues to try and fix. I know I am not the first person this has happened to. Thanks to everyone for there input.

My input is to run the codes and see where to go from there.
