Resurrecting this thread because some of the work I'm doing right now brought these life-long "truisms" present in my feeble mind...

  • Regardless of how careful I am, coolant will always end up on the floor and on me
  • Regardless of how careful I am, an 1/8" dob of Anti-seize will find it's way to be on me, all of my possessions, and like in a horror movie, return after thorough cleaning over and over again.
  • I spend more time looking for what I just had in my hand than working on my truck.
  • Regardless of how careful and meticulous I mask, paint will always find it's way to get on where I don't want it.

Shipping bolts are a reality .
No shop is too big .
There is no such thing as an 8 month build on a 60 year old truck

See a black rubber stretch cord lying in the road? Leave it. Don't slow down turn around and pick it up.
That cord will lead to misery and breakage of an expensive item some day.

And if your wife is in the car when you consider grabbing one of those off the road, it only gets worse.

A pair of visegrips in the road is a different story though. They bring eternal happiness and good fortune.

When you put the vice grips on so tight you can barely close them, be careful when you open them.
Mixer man already covered never push on anything with a closed fist.
normal craftsman screwdrivers bend, craftsman professional screwdrivers break

this landed right on the exhaust, I looked around all over the ground.

Remind your work buddy not to use your torque wrench as a breaker bar when he asks to borrow it.

Next time your work buddy asks if you have tools he can borrow to fix his wife's car just smile and shake your head.

Or you could say, "When you bring back the ones you borrowed last month, we'll see".

So, you pick up rubber straps along the road too? I have quite a collection of those and have never bought one! I am selective as to where I stop to pick them up, only on a wide shoulder with plenty of room to pullover and back up when no cars are coming.

My wife was introduced to my sickness about getting bungee cords for nothing when we were driving on Interstate 80 in PA before we were married. I pulled over, put on the four ways, backed up and told her to open the door and pick that strap up. She did because I think she was shocked and didn't know what to say. That was my first one of many and right then and there I knew she was a keeper!
