Transmission?
Did a test drive yesterday. This is a new truck (to me) so I'm not sure how it's suppose to act. I tried an acceleration test. I started at a stop sign in 1st then accelerated aggressively to 3000 rpms and when it was ready to shift shifted to 2nd. same for second then drive. I didn't try to go faster than 70mph. What I'm wondering is there were points that the engine sounded like it was spinning really fast but I didn't have a lot of control with the gas peddle. I mean if your driving down the road and let up off the accelerator and back on sometimes I could feel it responsive but it seemed to me like the engine wanted to go but the transmission didn't. Is there a test for this. I ran through KOER and other tests prior to this test drive but no faults. What is the proper way to check the transmission? What response should I expect from this truck without a load? It's a 2002.

Put it in D and let the trans shift for itself, see if it feels good. When I try to manually shift my AT it's pretty clumsy too. So I don't do it.
If the revs get too high I'm with TJC, TC not locking properly. And Chet's spot on; with Torque you can read torque slip so a giant number there would be a solid clue.
Is the light on the shifter illuminated? Can you click it off?
