Which brand transmission jack to buy? Also any advice on pulling the transmission?
I am getting ready to swap the transmission in my dads 250 v-10 4x4. Any suggestions to which would be a good jack to buy and use for the swap. Would like the jack to be able to pull the tranny in my 7.3 4x4 is that time comes also.
Also with the v-10 transmission, any suggestions as to write ups? Advice? Etc?

Check out harbor freight, i have their three ton jack for about five years now and last year bought their four ton jack with outriggers and I LOVE THEM! My four ton lifts up our two (empty) home heating oil fuel trucks so i can do brakes, tire rotations etc on them with little to no effort. Harbor freight makes a tranny jack that almost identical to the three ton i have except it has a nice top with adjustible mounts so you can hook the trans to it, get a coupon online and buy it for under 100BUCKS

I have a 2000lb. Harbor Freight transmission jack that I've owned for a couple of years and used plenty of times. It's WAY cheaper than buying a "name brand" jack and it works great. It goes high enough to pull the transmission from my lifted off-road rig and it's strong enough to take the cast iron 4-speed, cast iron transfer case, and 1/4" thick steel skid plate all out as one unit.

If you presently have or have access to a floor jack several companies make a trans adapter that fits on the end of a standard floor jack converting it to a trans jack. Jegs or Summit will have it. Again no off shore here. You may be able to rent one from a tool rental?
How is your mechanical skills and tool selection/availability? Have you ever performed a trans swap before? There are safety and other standard procedures to follow to ensure a successful swap.

EDIT>Tom Im not stomping you. You got your response out before I did. Im a professional wrench as well as conservative and I always try to buy USA just on the principal of keeping this country manufacturing. Ive also witnessed first hand chineasium heavy lifting equipment fail. So its a safety thing for me. So not a dig to you...mostly
No Idea why I have a duplicate post here. I tried to combine or delete the second. Site wont allow it???

No offense taken. I'm also a professional mechanic (or was for 25 years before being promoted to Service Manager) and a Conservative. I have a whole toolbox full of Snap-On and Mac tools that I used to make a living with. At work, we have an OTC heavy-duty transmission jack that's fantastic. But when I'm shopping for something I'm going to use at home maybe once or twice a year, $2k isn't in my budget. I bought the Harbor Freight jack because it was cheaper than renting one a few times and I was pleasantly surprised by how well it works. I never get under a load on a jack, anyway, so the worst that's likely to happen if it fails catastrophically is that my transmission may be damaged. I would rather buy American whenever possible but in this case, it was between buying the cheap one and not buying one.

Yes anything not made off shore! Would not want to put chineasium junk under a 7K truck or a 500lb trans/xfercase asm, period.
