Dallas area - Should I delete EGR?
I live in Denton County just north of Dallas. I know my gas cars need to pass a nasty emissions test. Does my '06 6.0L F350 dually need to pass some form of emissions test too?
If so will it pass with the EGR removed?
What do you folks in my neck of the woods (er, city) do for inspections if your EGR is deleted?
Thanks for your help.

The EGR was put there to shut the EPA up back in 2003. Certain other states like California require the EGR and sniff their diesels, but not in Texas.
The only thing that's frowned upon in Texas is "Rolling Coal". State Troopers and the local smokies don't like that....and it's the law.

Here are the facts: I do live in Denton County and there is no emission's test in Denton County for our 6.0 liter trucks. That said, while it may be highly improbable, the state could mandate emission's testing for our trucks/engines in the future. What they look for at the inspection station under the hood is anyone's guess since they only do a "safety inspection" on our trucks. Of course, if you were to move to another state, the requirements could be different.
Now, on to the opinion: Over the years I have watched optimistic individuals post their dreams of modifying the 6.0 in a myriad of ways, including the EGR delete. And I have watched those posters' become frustrated with the results of their actions and come back to the forum asking for help to undo their modifications or modify the results of their modifications. In some cases, it appeared they had spent some serious money for the modification.
When I bought our truck new in 2003, I wanted to be "plain vanilla" so when I had to pull into a dealer while we were out on a trip, we would be "stock" and look like everybody else. Since most of the problems we have had were on the road, this strategy has served me well. The 6.0 has had enough power to pull my 30' Fifth Wheel though 46 of the lower 48 states and it is quick enough unhitched off the line for me. Just my two cents.
You may want to look on this forum for the many write ups that have been posted on how to clean you EGR valve. I did it and it was simple. Good luck with your truck.

Make it easy incase you ever need to return it to stock. Buy a replacement egr cooler y pipe (straight), turn off the egr function with your tuner and you're good.
If you ever in the future, need to return it to stock it is very easy and cost effective.
My truck now has the "stock" appearance but I still run the straight pipe in the rear feeding the turbo.....not the EGR cooler.
