92 F350 7.5L Flatbed

I bought a 92 F350 flatbed with 7.5l 5spd manual to use as a work truck around my place. It is in fair condition, but runs strong.

I replaced the forward fuel tank because it would not feed and the guage does not register from either tank. I found the whole front tank assmbly on Rockauto with pump and sender for $234. The pump alone was almost $175 so I replaced the whole thing. Now I can run the rear tank til empty and then run the front tank which now registers on the guage.

Had a rear main seal leak and exhaust manifold leak so I pulled the motor.
Replaced timing chain, water pump, rear main seal. The head was busted in 2 places where the exhaust. Mainfold bolts up so I found another head at a junkyard for $100 and replaced it.

Added exhaust manifold gaskets where there were none previously, power steering pump reservoir, clutch, pressure plate and bearing. New oil pan gasket, battery and cables and put the motor back in.

Dipstick tube leaking where it slides into the pan. Added 2 o rings and it fixed it.

Ran it on a hay run and it is doing great except for the exhaust, which I have to replace. PO cut out cat, pumps and hoses. Has a very annoying drone, so I have to figure out what to put on it to quiet it down. The 460 is bigger than anything I have run before.

This forum saved me a lot of time and helped me avoid problems so I thought I would share. Thanks.
Joel

Mouse

Forgot that I had to eradicate a mouse family. Caught one in a trap. The other jumped to freedom during the maiden voyage after the motor went back in.

Had to pull the blower motor and force air in with a leaf blower to clear the ducts. Then vaccumed what I could reach and finally squirted bleach and water into ducts and let it dry.

I tried dryer sheets and soap but finally had to resort to trap.

My vacuum reservoir was rusted out which caused

a high idle do to the leak it caused.

I used a can opener to cut the "lid" off of the old cannister, took a pineapple can punched a 3/4 inch hole in the top, then rtv'd the old "lid" over the hole so it would have the place to connect vacuum lines.

Worked like a champ. Left the dole label on just to annoy people. It works.

Thank you. I try to do it right one time instead of wrong many times. I still have to shortcut some things like the pineapple can. But I can't see paying $50 for a new one when it really is just a can.

And it is a fairly big ordeal pulling the motor. I had never done that before. My repais have always been with the engine still in the vehicle.

I love the vacuum reservoir fix I'll admit I wouldn't have been able to leave the label on the can had I done this. Hey, whatever works!

Nice work. Looks like a solid work horse.

Driving home today and this fell out of the dash.

The good news is that my exhaust parts came in.

Last night I ended up pulling the heater core. Mice had nested in the box. Nasty. There were babies still running around in there. I sucked them up with a shop vac. Put a new core in after bleaching and Lysol. Mice are a pain. Heater core $20 at advance. Smells better already.

We had a truck like that at work before but it was a 4wd and it had been left to sit for years by the forest service it was filled to the brim with mice we avoided using the heater/ac as it could give you hantavirus

Some of the folks here helped me figure out an exhaust configuration. I ended up with dual mufflers, cat was already out. seems to run good and smooth. it is quiet.

I shared a video of it on the other thread. Since this is sort of my build thread I am putting it here as well.

Hold onto your old heater core. The Spectra ones have a high failure rate.
