I didn't read the entire thread...
Has anyone suggested you check the tin nut on the IPR to make sure it isn't loose or fallen off?

First ELM327 unit I got was $12, second was $6 on Amazon. I wanted a second unit to toss in the wife's glove box, chose it because it was a pretty blue. Both units work perfectly for me, but I'm a lucky guy. Plenty of stories of cheap units not working out there. Often folks will recommend the more expensive units and apparently they are more reliably effective. I'd recommend getting a cheapo unit and giving it a whirl, you may be lucky like me. If you have less time and more money, buy the expensive one.

If you pull codes with the truck running and it dies, no worries, that can happen to some trucks. Just restart it and pull codes KOEO. I can pull codes with my truck running with no issues, but on my buddy's truck it dies. Same model year/trans/GPCM etc. Did I mention I'm lucky?

Don't use the software that comes with a cheapo unit, all you need is Torque Pro. You say wifi, but with an android device you use bluetooth. iPhone would use wifi and different app instead of Torque.

If you are Android, the BAFX has a good reputation on the forum.

I have Windows PC and several iOS devices, I was going to buy two connectors, one that supports wifi and one that supports usb. From what I've read it is difficult to find software to read IPR data. I'm a software developer and find it very easy to create an app to send AT commands with the correct PIDs to retrieve what I need. I just have to have a reliable connection to my trucks computer. From experience, Which WIFI elm327 works with a 99 f250. I've seen MANY brands on Amazon but don't want to burn $$. Any advice on a USB connector woul be good also.

I have checked tin nut, seems fine. I have my new IPR, but since Tuggly mentioned there are no guarantee this is issue, I would like to pull/log the numbers when this SURGE occurs before I throw in the new IPR, and just confuse myself (easy to do) with maybe new issues.

I will share the software!!! And will incorporate any PIDs Maximums, Minimums, etc requested. Once done I will push to ios

I almost have my software finished. I have my Bluetooth device, all pairs well. I set the correct protocol for j1850 PWM and start communicating. All regular ODB pids come back correct, BUT when I send the pid for ICP 221446, my truck hiccups and almost stalls, is there something special to do for these pids in Tugly's post? Trying to get ICP and IPR readings.

ICP you can simply bust out a multimeter and check voltage readings!

That should give you a basic idea of what is going on. Forget the iphone app stuff for right now. Use a $5 multimeter!

For measuring IPR, that would require a labscope to calculate duty cycle. There are PC based ones for a couple hundred bucks. I would just start with ICP voltage for right now.

ORRRR go to autozone and buy the $200 tool that dieseltechron on youtube likes. I forget the name right now.

That's a bit difficult to do while driving down the road. You're saying forget the PID with the equipment he already has and get a $200 item to read it with wires dangling from the hood while driving?

Once in a while... a PID may trip the engine up, this happened to me as well. The only solution I know of is to uninstall the app, update your OS, install the app fresh, and make sure those updates are performed. Then... program your PIDs again. It's a pain in the butt, but this has worked for myself and other members. Before going that far... you can always start from scratch again on the PID and test it before saving it. All new PIDs can be tested while connected to the truck, key on, but engine off.

If it were my truck and I didn't have access to expensive tools, or cheap backdoor hacks weren't working; yes, I would suggest using a multimeter. It won't be fast enough to catch glitches like a high end tool, but it will at least tell you what your ICP voltage is while driving.

For example, if I were out in the middle of nowhere broken down, I would pull the multimeter out of the tool bag, or buy one anywhere, and start poking around and look for problems.

Oh and yeah I know you guys have heard it all for years, but I do like the idea of the scan guage 2. Program it for just the few basic PID's that you need and then keep it mounted in your truck. Or yeah, nowadays there are smartphone apps that do the same thing I guess. I don't have experience enough to bash em, but there are pros and cons to every approach! I personally wouldn't trust cheap/free cell phone apps to diag my car. I would prefer RAW data from multimeter, OR data from a reliable scan tool. Not an app that makes my truck stall.

That was my attitude in the early days of these apps. After feedback from users and a lot of work at the app, Ian has Torque Pro dialed in pretty tight. ScanGauge II doesn't have logging. If you have an issue with the truck that you don't understand, it can't email a log to one of the 7.3L palm readers. ScanGauge II can't graph live or recorded data to see trends.

I don't know about alarms on SG2, but Torque Pro has the full spread on every PID you want an alarm for - high and/or low. I have 6 PIDs on the fueling screen alone that I want to include on the dashboard scan during long hauls. I have another screen just to handle the temperatures and transmission. If I feel or hear something, any PID I need is a flip of the finger away - not a bunch of button pokes to select it from a menu while driving down the highway.

I amwriting my own communication software. Everything works fine sending andreceiving regular standard PIDs (ex. 0100, 010D, 010C, etc). Is there anyone who can help me determine how to correctly send the 22xxxx commands? Tugly, do you think Ian would be willing to help? With KOEO, the PID below restarts the dash, fuel pump, wait to start light, etc like I turned the key off and back on again. Im not just interested in the ICP and IPR, this has turned into full fledged Diagnostic application. I have all ready, just need to get past these Manufacturer specific PIDs.

pid ="221446"; mPIDs.Add(pid, newPIDObject(pid, "ICP", "Injector ControlPress", "((A*256)+B)*0.57"))

Thanks for any help !!!!
