T98 and T9 Brake Side by Side Comparison

I have been told you can not put a T9 brake on a T98. I'm going to show the similarities and differences. As hard as this stuff is to find sometimes. This will show what will work or not.

1952 T9 on Left. 1950 T98 on Right

T9 on left is stamped steel and is 8" dia with room for 2" wide band.

T98 is heavy cast 7 1/2" dia with 2 1/2" band.

Both should fit either trans.

Everything is the same except the band width and dia. Band must match drum but will fit either trans.

Everything the same here EXCEPT the one rod. The longer one goes on the T98 otherwise you can put either brake on either trans.

The pressed steel drum on the '52 F3 T9 and the narrower brake band may be a '52 light truck part only. All of the T9 transmissions that I have, have the same cast drum and 2 1/2" band that your T98 has.
Could you post me a measurement of the length of the eye bolt in the lower photo for the T98? Mine was missing so I will have to make one.
Thanks, Mark

Good to know about the light truck brake being different. I'm definitely going with the beefier T98 F6 Brake on my F3.

I can measure whatever you need. The rod end is what you need? Not the rod itself?

I was going to try to keep the T9 together to sell it but, realistically I doubt anyone wants it.

I can send you the part you need. You helped me out with those stake pockets. Let me know.

The eye bolt with the square head and spring that is in the yoke on the T98 brake lever is what I need a measurement of. The length from the center of the eye to the end of the bolt at the square head is what I need. I have several T9 bolts that I can unscrew the eye off of and make a longer bolt for my T98. On the T9 that you have, save the half bell and the rear bearing retainer/transmission mount and you can probably scrap the rest of it. There are a lot of those transmissions out there and they are not real desirable.
Thanks

5.575" from center of eye to very end of square.

5.360" from center of eye to end of rod. NOT including square on end.

The square part is roughly .215" thick.

The half bell is AKA Hogs Head? I know it would be needed for a T5 swap.

The rear bearing retainer/mount is good for what? Can it be used on a later style T98?

Thanks, that is the dimensions I needed. Yes the half bell is the hogshead. The rear bearing retainer can crack or break the foot, so someone might need a replacement. The T98 rear mounts are prone to cracking also, so you might examine yours closely before you install it in the truck. I had to weld mine.
Thanks again
