He built houses, stores and banks, chain smoked ca-mel cigarettes and he hammered nails in planks....

He was level on the level...

Sorry, couldn't resist. I learned to play guitar about the time John Prine hit the "Big Time". Still play one or two on occasion.

Not to sidetrack but I listen to J P a lot too. I like him with Iris Dement, In Spite of Ourselves or Nancy Griffith, Speed of the Sound of Loneliness..

It looks like they just rolled in from Transcona. The bus is also riding on a 3 ton chassis.

Supervisor or perhaps (not sure if ford would have had them already) QC guys. There had to be some sort of quality control. They may have been the tool and die makers coming around to set or check set ups. That is a mostly dead field as it is all CNC now. QC is big though.

I wonder what "economy" meant? Are they talking about overall (like ease of maintenance ) or just about mpg?

"And". Easy on gas, more power, lighter in weight. Less expensive to operate per mile.

One thing I noticed about working folks of that era is how well they could do math, in their head. They kept their pencil sharp so to speak, they knew exactly what things cost and how to run things, just like a business. It's jaw dropping how ****ing stupid people are today, include myself in that category sometimes.

Back then a price was a price. There were few if any loss leaders, the costs of items were more set and the advertising industry was simplistic. Now we are bamboozled with BS continuously. It is all designed to get and keep us confused as to what is a good deal and what is not. Why can I buy a teflon type fry pan at a store (that never has sales) for $30 where at another store they are $80 but on sale for 65% off at $28? This type of thing leaves us all at a loss to figure it out.
