Price check: 2005 Limited 4x4?

Hello again everyone. So the 2004 Excursion I was looking at fell through, but luckily for me a 2005 popped up over the weekend.

This 2005 is a Limited 6.0L 4x4 with 149k miles, original owner, no accidents, EGR delete, injectors changed at 120k.

I'm going to look at the truck tomorrow after work, and I would like to make the guy an offer if the ECT/EOT deltas check out and the truck is as clean as he says it is. However, I think he is high on his asking price of $21.5k right now. I checked KBB and it is showing the truck is worth around $17-18k in very good to excellent condition. I figured I would ask the experts their thoughts on what the truck is worth and what I should offer him.

Thanks for any help everyone!

Take that KBB and throw it in the trash. I can't stand when people bring that thing up, it's such an outdated form of appraisal. The truck is worth what people will pay. Don't want it, don't buy it. Someone else will if it's worth it.

Post pics, everyone's ideas of a clean truck is different... Look to see on the valve cover if motor is a 2004 or 2005, I would be willing to pay more for a 2005 motor.

I turn offers in the 30's down all the time, these trucks are really difficult to price unless you really start comparing what's out there in the market.

LivingLarge, what should I look for on the valve cover to see if it is an 04 or 05? Is there a date stamped on it or is is a code to look for?

Apocalypse, that was absolutely worthless advice. But thanks for feeling the need to share.

Actually, Apoc was telling the truth as it comes to the Ex, KBB will be nowhere close to what the market is willing to pay. You could try to use a low KBB as a bargaining point, but if the seller knows what he has, good luck with using the KBB for anything more than toilet paper.

$21.5k seems high for that truck unless it has been fully bulletproofed - aka studded. While these engines are known to go 500k with proper maintenance and bulletproofing, 21.5k for an 150k mile truck seems high to me especially if it isn't truly bulletproofed.

These are the stickers LL was referring to. Will say the year right on it. It is on the passengers side valve cover.

Also, I am inclined to agree with the above statements regarding KBB. Excursions are special vehicles, and are becoming a special market. A generic formula does not reflect that.

Cheers,

Nate

Also check if it has ever been tuned and feel out the owner to see what kind of driver they were as well as maintenance records. These engines need to be maintained or they go in the crapper. However I am sure you know this as you will be checking deltas. Hope you are also checking other areas such as the overflow bottle for boiling over etc

I'd say $15K tops, $20K tops of it's been fully bulletproofed.

BTW,
Agree with acopalypse KKB and NADA are not very accurate with Excursions especially diesels.

Go on Ebay under sold auctions and see what they are bringing. Seen most lifted Excursions sell for thousands less than stock Excursions. The low mile diesels are bringing huge money lately.
