That's the fuel filter - you remove the can, and replace the element inside of it.

Can't say if you can use one from a 460, but since they are the same engine family, chances are, yes - as long as you have room for it, and the pump arm is the same. If the new fuel pump doesn't have a built-in fuel filter, add an external.

One note, looking at that picture, the fuel filter is way up high, maybe to clear the engine mount or some other chassis part? Make sure you have clearance for the new pump.

Hey thanks, I removed it yesterday and figured out there was a fuel filter in it. I think pump is shot.I'm going to block it off and put in electric pump.

In the photo link the pump is upside down. The filter faces the ground.

Why go through that trouble, and I mean trouble. You will have to make sure fuel pressure is correct. You'd be wise to put some kind of inertia switch in as well, to make sure it doesn't feed a fire after a collision.

Just buy a stocker and think about it again in 10 years or so...

Serving suggestion....

I was thinking since i don't use the truck all time it will be easier to drain fuel out and run it dry because of the ethanol fuel that is being used today. It would also be easier on the starter I would think. Also i can use an oil pressure switch so when engine is not running pump will not run like most vehicles with electric fuel pump.

It not so easy to change this pump. I had to remove oil filter and drain radiator to remove lower radiator hose to get to the 2 bolts. I had to do it mostly by feel because I couldn't see the bolts.
