'55 panel truck vin question

Hi all, new to the site and I'm hoping I can get some wisdom from someone.
I just got the frame out from under my truck today and was brushing some rust off where I've read the vin is located. Passenger frame rail in front of body mount. After finding it and looking up other vins and dozens of websites I'm not sure if the stamping was just terrible or it's just rusted off.
The only numbers I can clearly read are "5 29194".
There looks like there might be a "v" in front of the 5 and an "m" between the 5 and the 2 but it's not clear at all.
Any help would be appreciated. I've tried to find how to post a pic but haven't gotten it figured yet. I'd like to get started on a thread of the work so far.
Thanks, Scott.

I'm wondering if it probably isn't a v since the truck had a 292 and from everything else on the truck it's original. Truck hadn't been plated since 1968 when I got it this summer.
I definitely can't make out any other numbers on the frame though. Thank you for the other info though

According to the list that I have the 292 was not available in the truck in 1955. There is no code for that engine in a truck. The only V8 for trucks in 55 were:

V= 239
Z= 256
J= 279 Big Jobs
K= 317 Big Jobs

292 introduced in 1955 Ford/Merc/Thunderbird Passenger Cars, but was not available in F100/700's until 1957.

There are two EDB block
EDB-A 1955-1957 As Bill explained above

EDB-E 1958-59 cars and trucks to April 1959 and 312 in Mercury

The 6015 is the number for all Ford engines.

Yeah that's what I found last night about the block so I wasn't sure what the F was for since I couldn't find any info on that letter. And it definitely isn't an E unless they didn't cast the bottom part of it.

I've found out that the serial numbers have been stamped on different sides for the 56 depending on where they were build but on my 56 there is a stamping above where the steering box was and another between the running board brackets on the same side, if your cab is still on you might try using a mirror.

Was your 56 built in Canada?

That clarifies the different locations, the Canadian trucks were stamped on the drivers side, the American trucks starting in 1948 went to the passenger side.

Is there any indication on the vin as to what color code the truck is? It's kind of a teal blue and never been repainted but I'm looking to use that color as part of the re spray. Found some color codes online but nothing that matches anything in the vin I have that makes sense. Thanks.

The paint code is not contained in the SERIAL number. The only place you would find it on a 55 would be on the data plate inside the glove box door.
