OT Virginia air and car show

Here are some pics from the event I attended today with my daughter. I know none of them are from 48-56, but they were some fine looking vehicles, and the pics are all Fords.

And finally, the window sticker for the 56 T-bird...

Wow, that TBird was expensive! That's back when a buck bought something. A new '59 Chevy was under $1800.

I believe that is the factory invoice, not the window sticker. I have one for my Thunderbird that looks similar. Has the punchout at the bottom that says "paid" with the date. Interesting that turn signals were still an extra cost option, even in a 'fancy' car. It was extremely well optioned; automatic trans, radio, heater, power windows and brakes, electric wipers, the works.

Nice pictures.
I went to Peoria on Friday and drove through Hannibal MO. Well they must have had a car show. I saw lots of beauties on the drive. Mostly rodded coupes. I did see one Chevy truck at a gas station. The family called me back to the car as I was just starting to check it out.
There was some very nice stuff on that road for sure.

So Joe, did you make it back home or are you still on the road?

Funny you say that. When I spotted the framed sheet on the seat, I bet my daughter I could guess the cost closer than she could (she was born in 82). I guessed $1,800, so I was shocked when I saw the price.

My dad's 65 F-100 was only $3,100, and that was 10 model years later (he got it at the end of 65 after the 66's were out).

Yes, I see now that it's marked at the bottom as the Accounting Work Copy of a multi-part form.

I agree Jim. We got to spend quite a bit of the day together, as she was not working this particular Saturday. She's an emergency call dispatcher and works every other weekend.

We're still in Virginia. Kathy has another doctor appointment on Tuesday with the vascular surgeon that performed the thrombectomy on her on 9/25. If he clears her to travel, we'll start the long trip home this week. I have the trip mapped out to take 8 days, traveling no more than 2 hours before stopping to stretch and walk around. We'll be going straight back on I81 and I40 to make the trip as short as possible. Still, it's over 2,500 miles. I hope to average 55 mph, but that may be a pipe dream. Probably be lucky to average 50 mph stopping so frequently. But, that's the doctors orders, and we sure don't want her to get another blood clot.

Would it be possible to put your wife on a plane and you drive back?
If a plane ride is safe for her it might be better for her. Yeah it would make for a lonely drive, but you could get back in a couple of days.

I actually considered that as one of the first options. But the doctor said that would be too long sitting without (possibly) being able to get up and walk. And I've been on enough flights where the turbulance kept us seated to know what he means.

No, flying is out of the question. One of my good friends asked if he could fly here and drive my car back home while we flew, but that just isn't an option.
