460 out of a '86 F350...any good?
I can pickup a used 460 and C6 out of a 1986 F350 for a good price. I don't know what years the 460's are good for being used as a core. Does this year have good heads and/or a good block to use?
Also I have a police 5 detent C6 and I would like to take the valve body out of this C6...would it swap out without any modifications?

Depending on how it was cared for the block is a good one to use. Should be a D9TE block. The heads are a drawback and if you want any reasonable power they need to be ported, or swapped out with some earlier heads or expensive aftermarket ones. I'm not sure about the trans, but if it is only the valve body that is modified, it should swap.

Thanks!
I found out that it was already sold. I want to go through the mildly built 460 I have to stroke it and increase the output so I thought having a good core be nice. That way I wouldn't have to disable my truck while I build the other. I keep that block number around while I look fro another deal.
I think the only difference in the trans is the valve body. I have enough power and little to no weight over the rear tries so I don't really need to lock the trans in first.
