Okay guys I just installed baby swamps about 1800 miles ago and wow it deffinantly woke the truck but now its time for a clutch and I already have a smf conversion flywheel. But Im wanting to get a clutch to hold up to other future mods. I do a lot of street driving but I do a fair amount of towing and don't wont to buy to small of a clutch and regret it .But I plan to do a few more things to it in the near future such as s366 and hpop and head studs and valve springs and pushrods and possibly a stage 1 cam. so I thought id see what you guys thought on clutch options and when it comes to clutches I really don't know very much about them. So thought id see what you guys thought .
I went with the Heavy Duty Organic from Valair. It holds the power much better. Its especially noticeable on 5th gear pulls. But be prepared for gear rollover. Stepping up to a higher performance clutch will almost certainly give you some gear rollover. Its worse on some trucks than others. It horrible on mine. Personally I would hold off on a performance clutch as long as you can for that one reason haha.
Unless you are willing to put up with spring wrap and the clutch "jumping" don't even think about a ceramic button clutch. They are good for hard pulls, they don't slip, but trying to ride the clutch while backing a trailer is very annoying.
what would you guys suggest because mines not going to last much longer it slips horribly I can slip it in 5 hardly even getting on it . I really know very little about them so what would you guys suggest i've read valair is pretty good what do you guys think
okay guys I really need your help my clutch is slipping pretty bad now and I was wondering if you guys new if I could use my auto zone smf with a valair clutch any advice would be greatly apriciated
Personally. I would call valair and ask them. Tell them what your need the truck for. I put in a south bend. I called them and they asked all the right questions and gave me an answer. So far I am very pleased with the clutch I got. It act like a factory one but handles my stage 2's
thanks for the response ive read that some say valair is the best some say soutbend. But valair seems to have a little higher rated clutch for the same price as south bend . Im going to be making phone calls to talk to both and find out my options. I was just curious as to what most of you guys are running in your trucks.
I am not real certain with the clutches. I have always run stock, but have spoken with a few people who have run aftermarket clutches. From what I gathered on the Kevlar clutches, if you do not beat on it very often it will glaze over.
Sorry I can't be of any real help, but I have not dug into it very deep yet, as my stock clutch is all I need for now.
