"SD bearing housing mod (Freakify Mod)

Ok so there is a problem with our turbos, biggest flaw, trying to take it out. So I read went thru forums but no one actually did it so given the opportunity of having all the necessary parts I said "Why not" , I also saw how redicilous the price on bellow up pipes were for our obs trucks I said something has to be done (at the time of my build I was short on funds so I worked with what I had with e99 stuff laying around so no bellows for me)
Another cool thing with this is we can retrofit sd bellow up pipes by simply getting a late sd turbo pedestal and driverside exhaust manifold, that way we can keep our turbo and intake manifolds

As you know you have to remove your turbo but ill skip this process since theres alot of threads regarding this.

Parts list are as follow:
-center bearing housing from any year super duty and bolts.

-E99 turbo pedestal and bolts (late 99 and up pedestal optional if you want bellow up pipes you will also need driverside exhaust manifold)

-Turbo rebuild kit (might as well its out and you need the backing plate seal)

Added info!!! Need an e99 backing plate.
And the most important The will to actually do it

-Step 1 (after you removed the turbo and pedestal) disasemble the turbo making sure the orientation in which you remove the parts

-Step 2 clean your turbo thrughly and the donated bearing housing and lubbing everything before the bearings and all the good stuff goes in(theres other threads regarding turbo rebuilds) now instead of the old cartridge going in you put the SD one in

-Step 3
Remove the pedestal and intall the "NEW" pedestal in simple as that

Step 4
Repeat the process of install of turbo wich you can find on other threads

Step 5
Crack open a beer and admire your work

Ps the ebpv might not work with the late 99 and up pedestall as the rod is shorter on the late 99.

Thanks for this! I was just about to pm you about this since I have an extra 99-03 turbo here. is there any way to tell what year the turbo is from? I have no idea what year mine is from. I also have an extra obs turbo so I may be able to do this without much downtime on my truck.

The center cartridges are the same from e99 to 2003.5
Early 99 turbos look like an obs turbo but with a watstegate late 99 and up are bigger in dimension no missing it.

Y not if doing SD manifold do the late collector/turbine housing also.just do all e99 with bargain basement doorman up pipe kit. That's the cheapest route....but sticking with stock just made no sence to me lol

Like mention on post one low on funds not even for the dormans, and I worked with what I had laying around. I made this simply to keep the stock turbo with the 1.15 housing. If I went the whole nine yards i would of had to put the .84 housing wich is No Bueno in my book

Nice write-up man! This is pretty cool. All of my stuff was replaced within the last year, but this is worth doing if one cant' afford the T4 set-up for sure.

So it wont work or could be used with some modification of the rod and what about the connector for the EBPV?, I ask this because I use the EBPV like an exhaust brake.

It works with the e99, with the late 99-2003.5, the ebpv rod is shorter with minor modification you can make it work.
