going to drop drive line to grease slip shaft and wondered...

Going to drop driveline to grease the slip shaft section at the center support bearing that causes the "bump". While I have the shaft down would it be a good thing to grease the u-joint caps?. The driveline is OEM so no grease fittings.

I was reading in the April 2014 issue of Trailer Life Magazine, page 54, where they did a drive line overhaul. The u-joints were replaced with new spicer no grease "sealed units" which the guys at the rebuild shop in CA, Drive Line Service, said the trend was going to a "greaseless society".

the truck has 170K miles will little towing and no noise, looseness or other indication the joints need to be replaced at this time.

Just trying to stay ahead of the problem. or should i go ahead and replace them all including center support bearing??

I would do it on condition. If it needs it do it. I've done so much needless preventative maintenance over the years.

My rear drive line u-joints were quiet at 200k but they did show wear when disassembled.front axle shaft u-joints were dry & binding.

If it's out and apart I'd put it back together with new parts.

Sure bring in on down.. With my schedule this time of year it might be march before i get to it. We just came through 12,,, that right 12 days of rain so my a$$ is behind on work projects.

luck for us not much damage like in Wilmington NC or Columbia SC or Charleston SC.. there was estimates of 24 fricken inches of rain in 3-4 days..

think climate change aint real..

after watching a few videos of u-joints removal and replacing on utube,, i feel like this is a somewhat easy project. The center bearing will be the only thing i need to take some where to get pressed off and on.

What brand for center bearing to look for when i get around to doing this project??

would it be worthwhile to have grease fitting installed in the slide yoke or not.??

other than the ford white teflon grease is there something better or same as to use going forward. (especially with grease fitting)

I feel for you Carl. That much rain at one time, boy. On the other hand we get hardly any.
