53 F100 Turn signal help

I would like to install turn signals on my 53 F100. It has never had turn signals and want to keep as stock as possible. I have a 12 volt system. Been looking for a "how to" on this without much success. Wiring is not my strongest area, but I want to learn it. Any suggestions on where to go for a step by step guide for dummies?

Thank you

Call Mid Fifty or Dennis Carpenter. They should be able to give you ideas.

Here is essentially what you need:
Vintage Style Universal Turn Signal Switch Rock Crawler Rat Rod Hot Rod | eBay
Whatever model you buy, it should come with detailed wiring instructions.

Worth reading this thread from a couple weeks ago: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...tch-ideas.html

I recommend the ones NAPA sells. Make sure you get one that integrates the brake lights into the turn signals or you will have to add 4 new lights just for turn signals.

The factory style switch is available:

1953-60 Ford F-100 Turn Signal Switch - B6C-13341-A

The '53 uses the round **** on the handle:

1948-56 Ford F-100 Turn Signal Handle, Chrome, Round ****

And you would need the self-canceling ring:

1948-60 Ford F-100 Turn Signal Cancel Clip - FAA-13318-A

I saw this switch in mid fifty catalog and called them about it. Could not be understanding of this switch. Here at my questions:

I assume you need to take the steering wheel off. Not sure how to do this and have the shop manual.

Why the pins on the wires? Do they feed inside or outside the column?
I assume the purpose of the cancelling clip is to turn the signals off after the turn is completed. will you see this clip on tope of the steering wheel.

I would love to keep as stock as possible but unsure of the installation.

Thx again for the help. Making custom kick panels today.

Yes, the switch I referenced fits inside the "bell" below the steering wheel. You just remove the big nut holding the wheel on, and use a steering wheel puller to pull it off. You might want to put little marks on the wheel and shaft to be sure you get it aligned properly when you reinstall it.

The wires run along the outside of the column. They are held in place with this clip: 1948-66 Ford F-100 Turn Signal Wire Retain, Stock - 13377
The pins would fit into the original type wiring harness for a truck equipped with factory signals.

Yes, that is what it does. No, you will not see it. It goes on the bottom of the steering wheel, inside the "bell" with the switch.

The major difference installing this switch from the externally mounted switch is pulling the steering wheel. It is held to the bottom of the "bell" with two small screws, and one screw holds on the handle. All of the wiring would be pretty much the same.

Here are a couple of pictures of the original switch going in. I'm in the process of wiring mine. I don't have the cancelling clip.

Thank you. This helps a lot. Much appreciated. Just need to figure out the wiring now. I want to use the brake lights as the turn signals. Any suggestions for this?

I'm working on wiring diagrams for my truck as I'm doing this exact thing. Below is a diagram I put together. Review it closely because there is potential for errors. If any of you experts see any flaws, be sure to let us know. I hope it's correct, but I'm not 100% certain.
