1 will likely be enough , but it looks like you could put 2 in and have.the same thickness as original if you are worried about it.

Besides yours and the few other R3-4s, every LD7-4 uses the same transfer case. Including both of Chuck’s own trucks. Do you really think he would sell you the wrong seal, Dave? Stu

Not intentionally, however given the obvious difference between them I don't think it's unreasonable to consider that a mistake may have been made do you?

No harm checking back with him, and since he’s a member here he may be quietly following along with the conversation. Stu

Dave, I don't know if you can get a repair sleeve for that yoke or not. I didn't even know they existed when I did mine. I turned my yoke down enough to clean it up, and put in a double-lip seal to match the new diameter. It's been a "lifetime" replacement on mine. It's been through snow deep enough to come around both sides of the hood and "soupy" mud deep enough to drag the wires off the stop light switch. I can measure the diameter of the yoke with it in place and get the number off the seal if you end up needing to go that route. - Bob

I would not call it the wrong seal it is more using the proper seal for the intended application. It will still seal the oil in the diff. But the exposure to dirt, grit, moisture, and possible submersion this applications may and or will see makes it an environment not well suited to a single lip seal. This really is an application for a double/excluder lip seal. Whats worse is many of these aftermarket single lip seals are hydrodynamic seals and will pump water in to the component or grit and dirt under the sealing surface. Hydrodynamic sales are the seals with the lines molded in to the outter seal surface. These are meant to force any leakage back under the seal lip. But can push water and dirt under the seal lip.

Really unless you were dealing with or are familiar with seal selection or the engineering aspect of it, to the average person a seal is a seal and if it fits the hole and seals the shaft it's all good

Single lip seals have their place but exposed driveline bits is not one of them IMHO

Had a great time at the car show, Brutus was a huge hit. Kids were climbing on him, men were climbing under him, women were having their pictures taken with him. A good time was had by all. Now time for some much needed transmission work, then on to the next show. Can't wait.

You had people walking past the shiney paint and chrome to come see your truck. Happens all the time at shows.

Years ago in my Austin Healey Club days we were at a “Conclave” national show in OK City. A guy named Fred Hunter had brought his unrestored and priceless factory 100 “S” racer and posted a sign on it saying “Sure you can touch it, it’s just an old race car”. It was the star of the event.

Brutus wears his battle scars with honor and honesty. Stu

Yeah, the guys on either side of me seemed a little "miffed". I tried to make one feel a little better by taking a pic of Brutus's reflection In his expensive paint job...I think it just added insult to injury. Not one person wanted to see it painted, "Don't touch it" was the general concensus.

I actually tailored him to the event and drove him up to his spot. Not ready to do highway speeds just yet. I did get invited to the Stanwood show but other obligations come first so maybe next year, I know it's a good one up there!

Comments like this make me question what I want to do with the paint on my truck (in a good way). I love the way it looks but I live in a state where rain and salt are the norm. I don't want it to rust into the ground.

Oh well, I have a while to think about the answer
