Not intentionally, however given the obvious difference between them I don't think it's unreasonable to consider that a mistake may have been made do you?

Dave, I don't know if you can get a repair sleeve for that yoke or not. I didn't even know they existed when I did mine. I turned my yoke down enough to clean it up, and put in a double-lip seal to match the new diameter. It's been a "lifetime" replacement on mine. It's been through snow deep enough to come around both sides of the hood and "soupy" mud deep enough to drag the wires off the stop light switch. I can measure the diameter of the yoke with it in place and get the number off the seal if you end up needing to go that route. - Bob

Really unless you were dealing with or are familiar with seal selection or the engineering aspect of it, to the average person a seal is a seal and if it fits the hole and seals the shaft it's all good
Single lip seals have their place but exposed driveline bits is not one of them IMHO

You had people walking past the shiney paint and chrome to come see your truck. Happens all the time at shows.
Years ago in my Austin Healey Club days we were at a “Conclave” national show in OK City. A guy named Fred Hunter had brought his unrestored and priceless factory 100 “S” racer and posted a sign on it saying “Sure you can touch it, it’s just an old race car”. It was the star of the event.

Had a great time at the car show, Brutus was a huge hit. Kids were climbing on him, men were climbing under him, women were having their pictures taken with him. A good time was had by all. Now time for some much needed transmission work, then on to the next show. Can't wait.

Yeah, the guys on either side of me seemed a little "miffed". I tried to make one feel a little better by taking a pic of Brutus's reflection In his expensive paint job...I think it just added insult to injury. Not one person wanted to see it painted, "Don't touch it" was the general concensus.
Oh well, I have a while to think about the answer
