Hey Dave,
Brutus is my new screen saver... thank you very much. He just looks great
there in front of your house ....not abandoned out in some cold field.
Nice job over there in Washington!
Thanks Ben, it felt really good to putt around in it this morning. I've already identified next winter's agenda hahaha... me thinks it's gonna be a long summer!
Is it road ready, state inspection and so on. what are your plans?
Thanks Abe, not quite road ready yet. Needs the brake light fixed and the brakes bled one more time, a final torque on the wheels(450ft lbs) then licence it. Thankfully no inspections are required. My plans are to drive it around locally and trailer it to a few car shows and let people enjoy it as it is. When I'm ready it will get a full restoration (retirement project). I'll also need to get an exhaust system done as well!!!
Congratulations Dave! Your truck is looking good, and you can be very proud of what you have accomplished. I love the size and stance of your truck. The wheels and tires are just right and complete the "look". Some trucks, when they've been restored, look ready to be seen (but not touched) at car shows. Yours looks ready for anything.
Jim, thank you! Alot of the comments from friends and family are about the stance and "look". I'm very happy with the way those tires and wheels come across , it's like they cement the personality that's coming from this truck. I can't wait to start showing him off !!!
Time for me to send an “attaboy”, Dave. Brutus is back together and ready for work. I’d suggest letting him wear his scars as a badge of honor for a long while rather than being in a hurry to restore him. I’m living the fact that they don’t go back together as quickly as they come apart. Stu
Thanks guys, that's exactly what I intend to do! I can remember be when I first saw this thing way back when, my biggest desire was "I wanna drive this truck!!" I'm almost there, a few more things to do to make it road worthy but getting close.
Well, after a few trips up and down the road out front Brutus has to go back under the knife!! I just can't drive it anymore 'till I put a new clutch and a couple seals in. Those are on order so I'll get started pulling things apart, hoping to have it ready for a local show in June.
It's been a long time since I've done the clutch, but believe the easiest way is to pull the engine. I was checking something on my Transfer Case yesterday, and wonder if you could check yours to see if the yokes for the U-joints (input from the transmission and rear output) are "in phase," or 90 degrees out. Mine are 90 degrees "out of phase" and just trying to remember if that's correct or not? Thanks, Dave! - Bob
I'll take a look at those yokes in the morning when I crawl back under the truck and let you know what I see. I'm hoping I can do the clutch by sliding the trans back far enough, figured it would be easier to drop the transfer case than to pull the motor.
