Answer is: Goodyear Suburbanite. I bet you're right about the thinner. - Bob

Tried denatured alcohol, no reaction. Tried lacquer thinner, still no reaction. Tried a 3M green pad, bingo. Stu

More information please, Scott. Where is this Ranger located? Pictures? There was one on eBay a few weeks ago in CA that turned out to be already known of. It had previously been on the east coast. Stu

That same one is back on eBay, item #142745961181. - Bob

An interesting quote from the listing: "The Marmon-Herrington components are virtually indestructible"

Thanks Bob, I’d missed the relisting. Indestructible indeed!

Thanks Scott. Mark Mossell is gonna want contact info I’d suspect. How did you come to learn about this one? I’ll email Mark and ask him to check in. Stu

Mark emailed me back and confirmed it is a new Ranger. He’s gonna want contact info for the owner, and the truck’s data to add to his registry. Stu

Edit - almost enough, almost enough, to get me to join Facebook. But no, it isn’t. Stu

F-4 (or F4) models were built from '48-'52. Model numbers changed starting in '53. There are some F-4 threads today on page 3 of the '48-'56 Forum. You will need a Parts Manual to see if parts interchange. - Bob

In the mid 70's I had a chance to buy a '50 Ranger in my area for $750. I told Mark about it several years ago, and even did a bit of searching as to where it might have ended up. At that time, I got a couple of leads from the owner of the business where a friend and I went to take a look at the Ranger. I remember it being dark colored - possibly blue or black. The price was about 10X what I'd paid for my pickup a couple years earlier, but the Ranger was in much better shape. The guy was planning on leaving for Alaska in it, within a couple of days. I don't remember if it had Alaska plates, or not. It's remotely possibly this is the one I passed on back then. - Bob

Just an FYI, there is no F400 from 53 to 56. It went from F350 to F500.
