Question Pitman Arm helpppppppp (1977 f150)

Hello all, quick question..

I'm doing the 1977 to 1978 steering swap on my 77 f150, does anyone know if using a drop pitman arm on a stock truck will matter? It's pretty difficult to find those 1978 pitman arms (unless someone wants to sell me one)

are you using a 78 f150 steering box or one off of a 250? I've got a couple stock arms off 250s.

You want your drag link and your trac bar to be as close as possible to the same angle. If they're not you'll get bumpsteer.

If it's not lifted, get the stock arm

No need to make another thread to just ask if someone has one for sale. Asking in this thread or in the WTB section would work the best.

WTB - Parts & other - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

Hitting your local JY is not an option for you? Seems like a pretty common part in my local JY. If the truck is stock then get a stock pitman arm.

Hi I have been reading this post and wonder if with a 2" lift do you need a drop pitman arm on it. Gonna change over from a 77 to a 78 drag link etc. and use my original steering box also off the 77 truck I have now. Thanks again for the info

If the lift includes a longer frame mount for the track bar that drops the frame end ..... then you will need a drop pitman arm as well. This assumes you want good steering ..... which means the drag link and track bar need to be at the same angle as you want them to go through the same arcs as the suspension works.

If you're asking, it's 170-230 lbs.
I think that may have been you in another thread where this was answered, but I figured what the heck. If it was you, at least anyone reading this will then know. If it wasn't you, now you have the answer.

The tart of a P.O. that I bought my 77 from basically just put the 4" lift on the truck and nothing else. Did not change the bushings the pitman arm, NOTHING ELSE!!! It was all over the place when I bought it. Now I put the 78 steering components, drop pitman & new rubber, can't tell you the difference its like new.
