44ttb 8lug gears/parts truck question

im looking at getting a parts truck that has 4.10 gears and my truck has 3.55.

Is it correct to think that the front will just be a third member swap? And for the rear I have new brakes on my Dana 60, should I have the ring and pinion swapped over or just swap my brakes? And swap axles?

Also is a 84 f250 with no motor and a 5" lift with a decent body worth? I can upload pics shortly

Your truck is a f250? The front should be just a pumpkin swap, though you will pretty much have to tear it down to it. You have to pull the axles out of the front.

For the rear I would try to swap the whole axle. You will have to figure out what axle you have in your truck, and what's in the donor truck if you want to swap gears, and then you will have to get the gears setup. The picture above looks like a regular f250 and not a 250HD. I don't see the snoot sticking out of the rear wheel like a f250hd has. Does your truck have the HD axle in it?

Yes I have a heavy half, or the little f250. We both should have Dana 60 rears. Mine is for sure. And I don't recall another 8lug rear.

The from would be a third member, or a 9" housing swap right? Pull the axles out and drop the center with all the gears/pinion/such attached and the replace and put together?

What do you think that truck is worth? Has everything but motor and dash.

Dana rearends don't have drop out pumpkins like the 9 inch. You have to tear them all apart and swap the gears and reset everything. That's why if you can, and the 4.10 center looks good, I would swap the whole housing and then put your new brake stuff on the 4.10 housing. If the 4.10 center looks good, that would be a do it yourself project.

Scrap metal prices are down now, but you have to consider that. He probably could get $250-$300 for it at the scrap metal place, so I would start there.

I know they don't, I was talking about the front, how the gears and such attach to the pumpkin.

Dana axles are not like a 9" where you just pull the axles and the chunk.
You will need to set the gears up into your housing, or swap the whole TTB over.

I understand I have to pull the axles, however I had a ttb gear set and it was all in the third member and not attached into the axle housing. It was not like a typical rear axle, it was more like a center section on a 9".

Nothing is as easy as a 9", but this isn't a regular axle style.

You can drop it out in the front. The complete gear set bolts to the axle arm/housing. Simple enough, but a lot of work pulling down both sides to pull the axles out a little bit to get it out.

I'm sorry, I misunderstood.

Yes, the complete gear *housing* bolts into the DS beam.

As Dave said, it is a lot of work.
